Summer starts out with a sense of anticipation and excitement both for kids and parents alike. But after a few weeks, the days start to become long, and we run out of things to do. Everyone is bored. I’ve created a simple list of 30 activities for summer fun. Most of this list is free or have a very low cost. I plan on trying to get through this whole list before summer is over.
Fun Summer Activities
- Paint rocks
- Make clay or playdough
- Chalk paint, shapes, colors (older kids use words, spelling or math)
- Scavenger hunt( the web has lots of printing ideas)
- Dance off, video dance show (we do this almost every day)
- Dollar movie (most theatres have one or two days they offer matinees for a$1)
- Buckets of water with squirt guns
- Water containers with odd items blindfold and guess what item you have
- Library
- Baseball games or local sports venue
- Day trips( we have a local train that takes you to a dairy)
- Field trips with friends(farm to see dairy cows and how milk is made)
- Farmers market
- Craft day from the dollar store( it’s amazing what you can get from the dollar store)
- Games( I spy, card games,jinge, charades)
- Cook together( juicing, baking, smoothies, dinner for family)
- Park play & picnic
- Sprinklers(good old fashioned playing in the sprinklers)
- Paint a bird feeder fill with food and enjoy watching each day the birds eat
- Outdoor camp out/or indoors( make a fort and read books)
- Search for bugs
- Summer events at your local zoo
- Paper mache crafts
- Printables(print from the web and coloring, hours of fun)
- Summer visors to make and paint
- Hike or bike( we live where it’s hot in the summer, we set out early to do this)
- Make a garden( can be done in pot)
- Water balloon fight
- PJ movie day
- Obstacle course
