Apple Crumble

Apple Pie is a signature dessert for the holidays.   This Apple Crumble will not disappoint under the gluten-free, paleo and autoimmune lifestyle.  You won’t miss the fat or the gluten.

 

Ingredients

2 pounds granny smith apples(peeled, cored and thinly sliced)

2 pounds gala or pink lady apples(peeled, cored and thinly sliced)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup coconut sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp sea salt

juice of 1 lemon

4 tsp arrowroot or cornstarch

1 gluten free graham cracker crust

 

Directions

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Lightly grease a 9″ pie dish.

In a large dutch oven add apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and arrowroot or cornstarch, stir to combine. Stir uncovered until apples are tender but not over cooked 15-20 minutes. The last few minutes of cooking add the juice of one lemon stir and set aside to cool.

In a small bowl crumble graham cracker crust.  Add 1/4 cup crumbled graham crackers into cooled apple mixture.  Place apple mixture in 9″ pie dish. Sprinkle remaining crumbled graham cracker crust on top. Bake 30 minutes until bubbly.
