Exercise
Exercise, what does that look like to you? If you are like me, your day is packed! Packed full from morning to night with stuff! Its all good stuff but, all that stuff takes time. My dream life would be to wake up early, sip my coffee while the sun comes up then leisurely start my day, with a walk then on to yoga. Maybe your day starts out that way, but mine doesn’t.
Exercise and making it a priority is not easy. We live in a society now where obesity, heart conditions, diabetes, mental health conditions and so many other health conditions are growing rapidly. Of course, many factors contribute to this, but one thing we know for sure exercise is good for the body and good for the mind!
Find What You Love
I spent lots of years going to the gym, which I hated. I went because I knew it was a healthy choice. I’d get through my workout doing the elliptical or stairs. Then some weights. But I never actually looked forward to it. When I was trying to get pregnant and having difficulty my physician recommended yoga. Becuase getting pregnant was my goal I tried it. I lOVED IT! Yoga has been transforming to my life, mind, and body. Find something you love. If you don’t look forward to it, keep trying until you find it. It doesn’t need to be a traditional gym setting. Try walking, hiking, biking, swimming, yoga, pilates, burst training just to name a few. The point is to find what YOU love. Then it won’t be a chore.
30 Minutes to Move
Exercise doesn’t need to take 2 hours, which is what I thought. The point is to commit to a time that you can reach success. It’s a goal you can attain. That’s powerful! It’s very discouraging if we try only to be let down from our goal. If you need, start with 15 minutes and work up from there. The Heart Association recommendation is 30 minutes a day. That’s a walk after dinner.
Get the Family Moving
The life we lead is the life we are modeling to those little eyes that look at us every day. If we move, exercise, spend time outdoors, hiking, biking, walking then they will see the importance of it. Our children will believe this is the LIFE. And isn’t it? If we love what we do, they will feel our excitement and passion and more likely to be active. We are an active family. My husband loves cycling and its something my daughter enjoys doing with him. She would see her daddy getting ready for a ride, getting out his helmet and sunglass and say “daddy I want to go with you.” Soon after that, we bought her a balance bike Schwinn 12-Inch Balance Bike, (which she loves to ride). We always have a yoga mat somewhere in our house. You can find my husband or myself doing a little yoga with our little helper in our “down dog.” She will ask almost daily, ” mommy show me some yoga moves.”
The point is Get Out, Get Moving, Live Life!
